Directed by Cho Han-byul and produced by KAFA in 2023, the film had its world premiere at the Aichi International Women’s Film Festival in September 2024, before its Korean theatrical release on July 2, 2025. The festival lists 94 minutes; the Korean distributor lists 95.
The festival programmed the film at Will Hall on September 5, 2024 at 13:30 and Midland Square Cinema 2 on September 7 at 18:30. It was an overseas invited film, listed in Japanese as ジンセン・ボーイ and in English as Ginseng Boy. The organizer’s guest section also named Jiyoung and featured her photograph.
Aichi Shukutoku University’s post-screening report records Japanese subtitles prepared by its subtitle-translation club’s students and graduates under academic supervision, with 30 students contributing to the translation.
Korean Cinema Week 2025 at the Korean Cultural Center in Japan lists the same Korean title, 된장이, under the Japanese title 少年テンジャンイ, with screenings scheduled for October 17 at 19:00 and October 19 at 13:00 in Hanmadang Hall. It is the same film as Aichi’s Ginseng Boy, not another work; the notice does not establish Jiyoung’s attendance.
